My Weekend

So, before the blog stays the same for too long, I thought I should update it with what I did over the weekend!

So, after my Math Tutorial on Saturday morning, I meet up with Avi at Finch station, which is the closest subway station to York. Through some thorough research, we discoverd that there was a Hindi Movie Cinema somewhere close to my place, so we decided to go!

So, after travelling for about half an hour on the bus, we found our cinemas! So, we went for 'Dhoom', since we didn't want to go for 'Choker Bali', even though it does have Aishwarya Rai, but then again, we guys had never even heard of it...

So, this is the funny part, the movie had English subtitles! That was so funny! So like whenever Rimii Sen kept talking in Bengali, we actually understood what was happening. The best was when somebody says:

"Arey, Ali Bhai kahan hai?"

...and the subtitle goes:

'Where is Ali Bhai? (Bhai = Older brother)"

I JUST COULDN'T STOP LAUGHING!!! THAT WAS JUST PRICELESS!!!

Anyway, after we watched the movie (for those of you who saw the movie, I thought Rimii Sen looked better than Esha), we guys go back to my place, dump our stuff, and then we go and have some dinner. I had Subway, Avi had Wendy's if i remember correctly. So, after that , since I've got a pool place on campus, we both decided to go and play some. So we play for 2 hours, and at the end of it, our score is 5-5!!! And Avi's like, 'One more game???' And I'm like, 'No no, I like the score as it is...!'

So then, we guys go back to my room, watched a little Pablo Francisco, watched Zoolander (never get sick of that movie!), and so, we ended our day!

Sunday morning we woke up, went and had Popeyes for breakfast, since Avi loves it so much. I mean, I like it too, but he just adores it! Then, we receive our phone calls from our parents, so we sit in the Common, which is this big grassy area in the centre of the university, and we're talking on the phones. After that, we're wondering what to do, so Avi says, 'Wanna play pool?' and I'm like 'Okay!'

So, after another hour of pool, our score is 7-7!!! HAAHAAHAAHAA!!! Continued from the previous night of course!

So then, we guys come back, chatted a little with you people who were there, and then, at around 5pm, I go to drop Avi at the Bus Stop, when I feel like eating something, so I go and have Butter-Chicken and Rice, while Avi watches me eat. So, FINALLY, Avi leaves, and that was that!

Avi, if there's anything that I've missed out, please tell the guys!

And that was how I spent my weekend!

Just thought I should say congratulations to you both for becoming Head Girl and Head Boy! It's great! Ebaad, I don't know what to say, because I really don't know what to say! And Abeerah...well, I've told you what I had to tell you anyway!

So, Congratulations to you both, and hope you do something with the school, something that Ahmed and I couldn't do last year! Ebaad didn't count last year because he's an idiot.

WOW!!!

Nobody says anything for 2 weeks, and suddenly there's an onslaught of posts!!! Please people, let's spread the posts out, so that there's something new everyday? Please?

Well, yes Avi is right, I did want to post something here, something that happened yesterday morning.

I woke up in the morning, and went for a shower in my bathing gown. Since the toilet is right outside my door, I just wear my bathing gown and go for a shower. But, I had forgotten to take one thing with me...MY CARD KEY!!!

So, as I closed the door, there was something in my head telling me 'WAIT, WAIT...YOU'VE FORGOTTEN SOMETHING!!!' But I had no idea what it was! So, I let it close...

It's horrible, you know, when everything is done, and SUDDENLY you realise what is wrong. I had just closed the door (which locks automatically) when I realised...OH CRAP!!! MY KEY'S INSIDE!!!

I frantically tried to pull at the handle, but in vain...

So, for about 30 seconds, I'm standing in the corridor, in my gown, wondering what to do... And then it occurs to me...AAH YES! THE DON!!! HE'LL KNOW WHAT TO DO!!!

So I go to his room, and on his door is written a word that makes me shudder...'ASLEEP'...

Shit, now what? Well, I did the only thing I could do...went for a shower!

I took the longest shower in my life...

So, after it was over, I went to his room again! And that dreaded word stares back at me...mocking me... Suddenly I realise that there's something stuck on his door about what to do if you're locked out. So I read it, and I feel even WORSE...

It says, 'GO TO THE MCLAUGHLIN BUILDING'...

WHAT? BUT THAT'S LIKE ACROSS THE QUAD...AND I'M NAKED!!!! DAMN!!!

Suddenly, I hear a noise inside...sounds like the TV... how can he be asleep, and still be watching TV???

So, with all the hope that I have left, I knock...

HE OPENS THE DOOR! I COULD'VE KISSED THE GUY!!! Out of relief, not because I'm gay or something...I AM NOT GAY.

And he's like, "Hi, what can I do for you? Wait wait...you're locked out aren't you? I thought so, when I saw you in your robe...!" Jeez, okay yes, I know I have no clothes on...give it a rest!

So then he goes back in, and I see a girl lying down on his couch...and she waves 'HI!' to me. She was fully clothed so I don't think they were doing anything that I shouldn't have seen... So calm down... Abeerah, Ambreen, I wish you wouldn't think that way... Please, everything is not about sex! God, you girls are too much... Why are you people so obsessed??? Please... God...

Anyway, he brings out this Master Key Card (MasterCard...get it?? HAHAHA!!!) and proceeds to my room, and opens my door...

Since then I've been living with my key card in my pocket. I was so relieved that I was spared the embarrasment of walking around campus pretty much naked... Believe me I was getting weird ideas...

So, that's what happened yesterday morning, may not sound like much, but I'd like to see you roaming around in a public building in your shower robe!

So, that's how my day started yesterday, and my day ended yesterday with me reading the latest issue of the university newspaper saying that York Security can't physically intervene if you're getting beaten or raped... Because of some stupid law...


WOW!!! I FEEL SO SAFE NOW!!!

anyways i didnt post all this time cause it seemed that only ahmed, imran and me were posting and thats it....the name of the blog should have been "the ppl who left dubai gem"...i was kinda waitin for the others to post...

anyways i was expecting a post from imran last night cause he has
something "special" to tell u guys (i already know it)...

well the studies here are getting more and more difficult though it does seem like a continuation of AS-level only...

btw, if any of u are interested in joining U of T next yr, dont think that uve wasted a yr by doing a-levels cause they give u credits for doing that here (grades C and above)...

The silence has been broken...

Hmm, it seems like everyone is really busy these days... thats a good thing i guess... but it doesnt mean u guys dont post!!... Thank you, Abeera, for finally posting something... I was getting quite sick of seeing Avi's Shortest Class everytime i checked the blog....(Sorry, Avi, it really got quite boring after a week!!)...
Okayyy so everyone, hows school/university/the holidays (grrr...Ahmed....) going?... Oh incase some of you dont know, or didnt notice...i havnt been going to school that regularly... okay, well, not at all infact... its a long story, dont ask... should be back soon though, Inshallah... So dont worry about me too much ok? Try not to miss me tremendously..these things happen sometimes... Fear not, for i'll be back to light up your lives very soon...
Oh yeah, did you guys know Ahmed Usman was in town?... for those of you who were in school when he was.... i think hes still here actually, i but i dont know for sure...Fahad met him apparently...when i asked if he'd changed, he said...'um, no...well..uh..yeah i guess, a little...'....so go figure!! just trust a GUY to cut out all the details!

Things are slow here,nothing much happening in Dubai or Dubai Gem..school's sort of boring.With SO many free classes everyday, its becomes a drag..you cant even come late if you've got the first 4 classes free...its horrible.

How are all of you doing ? Immy? Avi? Ahmed? AHMED! I heard you came to school ! and all this time I thought you were in Egypt...whats going on ??

Shortest Class!

well guys my classes have begun here at the university and beleive me its wierd to have around 200 classmates!
today i had the ECO100 class (thats what theyre called here)...its actually a intro to economics class...
well once all the students were in and seated, this french guy comes on the microphone and is like " Welcome students, we have no class today!"... and i was like WHOA! what a welcome!
apparently there is some thing with the thing that there are no classes on fiday in that bldg...
anyways that was pretty cool...never had a class cancelled in dubai gem...

Second Day of Class...

Well, Faisal wanted to see the view from my window, so here it is! Actually this picture is about a week old. I took it during 'Frosh Week', that's why the Quad has so many people standing there!

Today I had my second day of class, Social Change In Canada. Quite an interesting course! I think I'm going to enjoy it!

Oh by the way, next week I have a looooong weekend, meaning I don't have class on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday, because of... ROSH HASHANAH!!!

Now I hear you all say..."Man, what the heck is Rosh Hashanah?"
I shall tell you my dear friends...

My first day of class!

My Room by night!!!

Just thought you guys might wanna see how my room looks... This is about all I could fit in the lense, though the cupboard and the chest-of-drawers aren't in the picture; they're right next to me, and I had my back against the front door when I took this picture, so you can make out the size of the room... Somewhat at least...

This was the first time in my life I was having a class at 7 in the evening! Crazy! Anyway, I got to my class 5 minutes before time, only to discover that most of the class was already full! So I sit, and wait...and wait...and wait...

Professor walks in 15 minutes late, but I guess he's a Ph.D so he can do that... So he starts talking about general things regarding the course...blah blah... And by the end of the lecture, we hadn't written a single digit in our books! Imagine! A math lesson, with no numbers! He kept on talking about Logic and the like...

Oh and by the way, there's no calculator allowed for this course...

Anyway, I come back to my room, only to discover that I have a floor meeting at 10pm! So I go, the common room is right next to my room. Meet everyone, meet the Don, his name is Dave, 4th year theatre student and what not...

Anyway, the Don's quite a funny guy, and so are everyone else. Very easy-going and stuff! We voted for Abdullah to be our RAC Rep, which is something like a student council position, organising outings and stuff. Some other guy got to be Fire Warden by beating the other 2 nominees in a game of rock/paper/scissors!

Anyway, it was nice, got to see a whole lotta people who I didn't know existed, and everybody seems friendly enough! Tomorrow night is Thursday night, and apparently they have something every Thursday night for those who don't wanna go for Pub Night (did I mention we have 9 on campus?), this week it's a 'Back-2-School Movie Marathon', basically to do with all movies that have something to do with school! From 6pm to 3am apparently...

Anyway, I don't know how many of you really wanted to know how my first day went, but I thought since nobody's posting any new posts, I might as well share what I did!

Public Displays of Affection

Well first day of school was extremely boring and uneventful... apparently Grade 13s are only supposed to come from Saturday onward so i woke up at 7 for nothing... though there was this one thing that happened.... that made it al worthwile...
See, we're all sittin in the library... me, abeera and nishath... i had my back (baCCKKK-imran, remember?) to the door... and i hear it open yeah... then abeera looks that side and says...'oh my GOD....poor faisal....' and starts giggling... and i turn to look... i see Fazlur standing there, and he's HOLDING FAISALS HAND!!!... hes holding on pretty tight by the looks of it... and he stood there for a good 5 mins, i think he was asking the librarian something... and all this while Faisals sort of...hovering around him... and Fazlurs jus NOT letting go of his hand.... it was such a good laugh... you guys should have seen the look of Faisals face!!!... poor guy.... and all this while Fazlurs jus...holding on... then when he's (finally) done talking to the librarian he walks out.... with faisal trailing behind...still hand in hand... it doesnt sound that great but trust me.... it was hilarious!!
Such love filled relationships are so hard to find, right faisal?

So people...

The summer is finally over.

Apparently you all went to school and you still didn't do anything, and they've called you back on Saturday? WOW...Extended vacation...lucky...

Just thought I should tell you, I passed my pre-requisite math test, so now I'm feeling much better about myself...

Anyway, tell me what happened on the first day! Apparantly there was a lot of hugging going on, why the sudden showing of affection? Funny that...

And who are the new admissions?

Anyway guys and girls, I shall go now, I think I'll get something to eat...

Ive shifted!!!

well ive shifted into my dorm in the university and am pretty well settled...the only thing is that i seem to be the only brown skin on my floor... well thats ok i guess...
i also have internet in my room and man is it fast...i just downloaded the 78.0 mb service pack from microsoft and it took me like 5 mins.
anyways it seems none of u guys are posting or commenting on the blog and it really is kind of depressing...
btw... i want a complete update on the first day of school...really wanna know whats happening there...

MOVIE REVIEW - Teen Deewarein (3 Walls)

I wanted to see this movie ever since I saw a clip from the movie in B4U... so finally I rented it..
and wow.. what a movie..

Some of the plots of the movie were taken from The Shawshank Redemption which in my view is one of the best movies I've ever seen.

Story is abt this film maker (Juhi Chawla) who wants to make a documentary on 3 prisoners awaiting death row... (Jackie Shroff, Naseeruddin Shah and some other guy).. her relationship with the prisoners slowly becomes personal... some interesting twists and revelations at the end make this movie very very entertaining.. although a bit predictable, I was never really bored while watching it..

The english dialogues were good and at times.. seems it was overused..
Brilliant performance from all the above actors and also from Gulshan Grover who also pulls off some amazing angrazy!

Watch it.. its really good.. but there are some scences which are not really sutitable to watch in front of parents..
1) there's a gay rape scene (very very badly done.. but its really funny)
2) there's a love making session between juhi and her husband (not one cloth was removed)
3) there is one more.. but i just don't wanna reveal it..
