rocks in the desert...

hey all...was just online,checking mail,when i had this urge to come on to the blog site..havn't been here for quite some time..as though it matters,but thought i'd check in on what the kewl outsiders are up to...not much by the looks of it,since most of the page is filled with whats been going on here(yawn).why can't we have stories of hot "angresi" or egyption chicks filling the page?

Anyways,as all of you already know that the desert rock concert was here(thanks to our star reporter-Faisal),which was like only the biggest event in dubai, was missed by me because my sponsers refused to provide me with the nesseccery financial aid(in other words-we're memons),so i was just sitting around at home,cursing my life,when my brother told me about this jal(paki band) concert going on in the globel village.

Oh and yes,the G.V was still going on,as some very bright individual thought it would be a very thrilling prospect(my vocab has improved!)for the people of the world and a good oppertunity to make some more cash.Well,unfortunately for him,the idea bombed and this was one of their promotions to get more people to come-a FREE jal concert,which worked fine for me.(free-the most beautiful word in the dictionary.)

so i took off with my brother and his friends,the odd one out,and after about a hundred stops and kilometres,we finally reached the place.and then had to walk some more KMs to get to the amphitheatre-where the concert was going to take place.

So we go there and after a lot of waiting,some supposedly famous guy from paki came on stage and started talking about 'what a pleasure it was for him to be there..' or some crap like that,when someone from the crowd shouted out the word "a**h***e".from that moment,the crowd goes crazy(yes including me) and the guy was hardly heard over the chants of words like..."m*****f****r" and etc-this was a typical desi crowd,so you know what i mean..the guy quickly made his exit,after announcing the 1st band(i think)and as he walked off,the chants eventually died out.

Now the band comes on to the stage.Their introduction is shown on the big screen over there.it was one of the local ammeture bands with this being thier 1st big break.there were 4 guyz and one of them had a ponytail like samnan.Everything was back to normal,the usual chitter chatter was going on and the band was testing their equipment to make sure everything was alright.After this long and annoying procedure was over, the band members got into position.The drummer started off with a beat,followed by the bassist joining in and just as the guitarist was about to start,he decides to take off his ponytail(like arnold says) 'big mistake'...they barely got to complete one song over new and louder chants of "chakkey" (which means...um...those half guy/girl people in paki and india).

The rest of the concert went the same way,plus MAJORITY of the crowd had their middle fingers up and waving in the air.a very heartwaming sight i might add...only jal was ok,but the rest of the crappy music,was punishment,which i admit i deserved,for missing the best rock concert in dubai.We got home at about one something,and i went to sleep cursing my life even more.And since all that boredom was too much for me to take alone,i had to pass it on to you guys too :) no need to thank me.

Desert Rocked!

Riiight..
It's been a long time since I posted.. well who the hell cares anyway. .

So riight... the story starts off in Jan when Mohannad tells me "Sepultura" is coming to Dubai for a rock concert. For those of you who don;t know.. Sepultura is a famous "thrash/heavy metal" band.. My reaction was "what crap.." I mean a rock concert in dubai? This is like the most stupit thing I've heard.. (For god's sake even Limp Bizkit din't come to dubai!) and Sepultura coming to Dubai is absurd! They are huge.. very famous among metal fans..

Anyway 2 months on.. Mohannad tells me that their's gonna be an annual rock concert in Dubai which would showcase International Bands.. It's called "Desert Rock" .. and he informed me again that Sepultura are definately coming to perform.. the other band are Saxon(!!!!) , Machine Head, Within Temptation and THE DARKNESS (Headlining Band)! Again I told Mohnnad u are full of crap.. then the next thing I see there's an add in EPlus Magazing.. and they have finnally announced it..! These bands were actually coming... WOW!

Anyway Saif and I decide to go for it we were very thrilled.. our first rock concert!.. Ticket prices were 195 (all).. So I begged my Mom! I told her this would be the last time I'll go out before my exams.. and surprisingly enough she said "Ok"

So March 22nd we get our tickets.. Mohannad decided not to go cause he was having problems.. He pissed us off pretty bad with his decision.. (I'm still pissed at him)

25th Friday! That was ROCK DAY! I was so anxious for this concert that I just kept thinking abt it.. all the time.. Samnan tells me 2 days before the concert that Saxon won;t be coming.. I was very disappointed .. cause Saxon are a legendary band.. Anyway I told my self that atleast they still have Darkness and Sepultura..

The day finally came.. I woke up early to do some Maths... but still kept on thinking abt the concert.. Samnan picked Saif and Me after Juma Prayer.. we first had some McDonalds.. then off we went to Dubai Country Club.. We lost our way a bit.. but finally we reached there.. And oh god... the security..! It was like a military zone.. they were checking everyone pretty closely.. the three of us made our way towards the Stage.. It was huge!.. Anway at around 4:30 a local metal band "Nerve Cell" started playing.. uff.. they were so cool.. but nothing great.. everyone started head banging like crazy.. i got pushed everywhere.. and I fought back by pusing random people! There was utter chaos! Anway those huge Bouncers kept moving everywhere! They didn;t let anyone do anyting stupit.. After Nerve Cell , another local band "Julianna Down" started playing.. they SUCKED!

Alrite... so we three got together and met up with the rest of the gang (Imad, Haroon, T2.. and the others) The next band was Sepultura! OH GOD! THE CHAOS! The moment the announcer mentioned their name.. Everyone ran towards the stage (So did we) Anyway after half an hour.. of waiting the finally come out! OH GOD.. IT WAS ACTUALLY THEM! Uff.. the music.. Uff the madness! They were so damn good! They rocked everyone! So much of head banging went on.. I rmember getting pushed badly and then noticing this arab kid.. who smiled at me with his mouth bleeding..! Just at Maghrib they stop playing cause it was prayer time.. Surprisingly they didn;t swear on stage! Anyway they played till the end of daylight..! It was amaziing!

Then the had the Air Guitar competition.. which was cheesy.. and funny.. the guy who won(Johnny Van Halen) .. just managed to win because he was just jumping around all over the place.. rather than showing any skills...

Anyway so the next band was Within Temptation (w/ a girl singer.. she is hot).. they are gothic rock band..I HATE GOTHIC ROCK.! well they were the least cheered band anyway.. Man the music was bad.. ! The girl.. started dancing like a boothni.. (a ghost).. it was a funny sight..

AND OH GOD THE CHIIIICS! IT WAS HEAVEN! The girls were SO FREAKIN HOT.. IT WASNT EVEN FUNNY.. Angels from heaven..... I've never seen so many hot chics go crazy.. lots of "other" stuff was going on too... if u know what I mean

Anyway Within Temptation were so bad.. We three decided to go to the parking lot.. and just sit and relax (we were damn tired!).. Sam's car refused to start as the battery was completely dead.. Suddenly we hear the announce mention MACHINE HEAD.. after a while though we hear this ROARING THUNDER.. PEOPLE SCREAMING THEIR LUNGS OUT.. Saif and I ran towards the stage.. Machine Head started performing.. and wow.. ! they kicked ass! Everybody went crazy again.. they lifted the crowd like anything.. it was out of this world.. Their was one perofmance where the played a song "Creepin' Death" with Sepultura guitarist.. that was fun..

Alrite now the last performance THE DARKNESS! They were the prime reason I came for this concert!.. So we wait an wait.. it was at 11 30.. when they finally came out.. IT WAS BIG.. THE stage was lit up so well! Their was fire works and smoke! They started with Black Shuck.. man that guy hawkins is crazy.. uff the amount of jokes he cracked
"ITS SO GOOD TO BE IN THE DESERT"

Man that guy is SO COOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOL! He was so funny..! I couldn;t stop laughing.. freakin clown! the best part was he said he was not allowed to swear.. so for the first time in history he announced that they are gonna play the first and only "clean" version of "Get Your Hands Off My Woman" before that he said he found a new word to use instead of "Motherf****r".. "MelonFarmer" then he said he needs help to learn it.. so he asked everyone to help him.. So he said Melon on the Mic.. he expected all of us to Say Farmer.. but everyone said "Fu***r"..he kept on saying "Melon" and everyone replied saying "Fu***r" (so did I) .. it was damn hilarious..

He was a bloody cartoon on stage.. the whole act was brilliant! He got this keyboard/guitar instrument on stage later saying "Do u get these in Dubai?".. and also "I call this agressive guitar playing".. "They call it a Keytar" "But I call it Geyboard" "So what do I call it..?" Everyone replied "Geyboard" he then said "Get BORED! Whoever said that should just get out of here right now" ... theyplayed lots of songs.. they according to me were the best! They rocked !!!
Alas.. every thing comes to an end.. and so did the concert
I got back home at 2 AM.. Had school in a few hours.. Couldn;t sleep... My voice was completely gone.. I thought all of that was a dream..

My first rock concert.. WOW..! IT WAS ONE OF THE BEST MOMENT IN MY LIFE!

The stuff Abeera missed out!

Oh my God, Abeera, how could you forget to update the non-uae ppl on the most important thing thats been happening here in the past week??? no, its not the fashion shows, the farewells, or any of that glitz and glamour... its something far more serious... far more scary... and no i'm not just trying to be funny!!! u'd be scared too if you were here... for there is a killer on the loose... the 'SHARJAH SLASHER!!!' (as Khaleej Times has named him)... well ok so he hasnt actually killed anyone yet...but apparently theres this supposed mentally affected guy out there... roaming the sharjah corniche area... and in the past 10 days or so 4 women have been stabbed by him... one incident was in a lift... apparently he got in on the 3rd floor, stabbed this woman, and walked out on the 11th.... and theres rumors of another incident in one of the sharjah shopping malls...

it was actually quite freaky, i mean things like this dont happen here... the newspapers were advising women not to stay out late in certain areas and all...then there was news that hes moving towards dubai... and suddenly one morning we find out they've caught the suspect... some crazy srilankan guy apparently...

things were calm for a few days after tht... and this morning there was another front page report... a 16 yr old girl's face was slashed... she was coming home from somewhere and he was hiding in the shadows or something... soooo i really duno whts goin on now!!

its all quite confusing... people are saying its all far more serious than the authorities have officially said... you know ow generally ppl here seem to think the police is covering up the whole story so as not to freak people out? yeah... well lets see what happens now... Inshallah it should all be fine!!...

SnowTubing and King Kumble

Well, it has been a looong time since i posted, partly because i have been busy and partly because im just lazy...

Anyways, yesterday i wend for Snowtubing with my uncle and his family who invited me to come along...
Let me explain who this works. First you sit in a tube at the bottom of the hill and are pulled up by this pulley sort of thing (think cable-car). Anyways, once ur at the top, you go close to the edge of the slope and sit on ur tube and wait. Then one of the attendents comes and pushes you and WHEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!! You go spinning and twirling down at a high speed!!!

Then you take ur tube again and go up again and once again WHEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!! more fun...
Well i went up and down like 6 or 7 times and i was still having fun but we had paid for only 2 hours so we had to stop there...
Its something like going on one of those water rides at wonderland, only this is on snow and hell lot more fun...

Anyways, thats what i did yesterday and also yesterday India won!!! It was really a great performance by India's best bowler (in my opinion at least) Anil Kumble...

So i was pretty happy about that...

Well nothing much more has been going on here except for the usual uni stuff...the weather has gotten better as the tempreture hovers around 0 degrees so its nice and pleasant...

Breaking The Ice !

Every once in a while the blog does get too quiet..so this time around i thought "why not I, for once, get it going?"

Not like I have much to say,things in Dubai Gem are going pretty haywire.With the Fashion shows,Spring Fiesta,Basketball/Football tournaments,Farewells going on,I seem to be missing quite a lot my classes.And the funny thing is that im not participating in anything at all !!

Already Im quite sick of the free classes we have 'coz theres absolutely nothing to do.Its impossible to study in the Common Room,with the load of noise these 12th graders make!
And today ?? Today...Faisal decids to pollute the Common Room..its was STINKING!!
what he did ...only he shall tell those of you who're dying out of curiosity..

Anyway,What are all you people upto ? Specially those of you on the other end...no contact from you all..

Bet all of you are up to date with the matches..Frankly speaking,im really not fond of test matches..partly because I dont know whats going on! Im just waiting for the " O.D.I's " (Ambreen,Immy..did that make you smile?) Specially since thats falling during our holidays..

Yes, well, following up on Faisals post...

Arash and Neha (surprise surprise) were prom king and queen for grade 11... i didnt vote for any of the people who got selected!!... In grade 12 i think someone like Harith should've gotten it... i mean he was on the dance floor the whole time, getting everyone to join in and all..Tahir, on the other hand, just sat there looking pretty... and in grade 11... well Arash looked nice and all but nothing beats Farhad!! and Ebaad like an idiot went and told him how i thought he looked extremely hot so now i'm so embarrased:S..

Sameer wasnt that bad though was he Faisal?... i mean apart from the stupid song he played when we went to dance, the rest of his song selection was quite good... specially the slow ones... man these grade 11s, theyre quite... um... carefree! the things some of them were doing!! and grade 12 wasnt far behind, i mean i was SO shocked to see all these girls... salloni, alizeh and all... totally drunk... some of them couldnt even WALK straight... there was no booze AT the party though, apparently it was all in their limo..isnt that nice...it was my first time around people who were so drunk!!i didnt know what to do!!!"AMBREEN, DARLING, COME HERE!!!"... and i'm like...uhhhh....... me and Sheela were jus like...woah..

Prom Night (Only thing missing was Carrie)

Riiiiiiiiight.. so.. the prom's over.. well how was it..? It was beyond what I imagined..
Thursday at Fairmont Hotel (apologises if my spelling is enkorrect)
Well ok.. let me start from the beginning.. I got ready by 7, me and Ibad walked to spinneys.. got together with Mohannad.. from there.. we trio headed for Zubin's house... After Mohannad selected his tie, Zubin took us to the hotel..

By the way we were dressed like business men.. well the first people we came accross were Farhad and his classmates (Grade 11).. when I asked where his brother Rushad was.. he said he's coming in a limo.. (!).

Alrite we four head towards the ballroom to find it completely empty... Riiight.. and guess who the DJ was.. it's the chota ADAM.. Sameer... wow we payed 135 bucks just to see Sameer be the DJ.. riiight.. (The ballroom was huge.. and beautifully decorated.. but there was no dance floor.. only a big tiled area between two sets of tables..)
Anyway Zubin and Mohannad were cursing each other for coming so early.. we met SP.. who organized this entire event.. (he's a newbie in grade 12).

I went for a walk downstairs.. I noticed some grade 12 girls acting a bit wierd.. but when I saw Saloni.. I understood what was going on.. Most of them were drunk.. Saloni was gone.. she couldn't even hardly stand..

Anyway SP kicks off the prom.. I noticed many hot chicks arriving.. the hottest was this "Blue Chick" uff... she was wearing a short skirt with a blue top.. man.. she was hot.. (NOT FROM OUR SCHOOL). Zubin tells me she's the girlfriend of a gangster.. she came with Ryan (remember the white guy who left school last year..I think). Well.. Alizeh.. my god.. she was drunk too.. the way she was drooling all over Abhishek was so of funny.. (me and zubin had a good laugh abt it) she looked hot.. with those huge jugs...

Then comes our dear old ambreen.. who looked beautiful.. and she smelled nice.. enough to make Abeera jealous... (Zubin, me, Ebad, Mohannad, Ambreen, Sheela, Raza were the only grade 13's there)

So.. some people started dancing.. slowly all of us joined in.. it was good.. zubin went back to the table and smoked every 5 mins complaining that he's tired... now he's weird..
The girls of grade 12 who I thought were decent.. turned out to such slutty girls.. well.. why am I complaining... They were drooling all over the garde 12 boys.. (At that moment I wished I was in grade 12).. I saw some of them making out..smooching.. and necking... and god knows what.. I so wished I had a girl at that moment..

Anyway Sameer wasn't that good at being a DJ.. When everyone were in the mood for slow dancing.. he adds hip hop songs out of nowhere.. and I don't recall him playing any trance.. that idiot.. I asked Ambreen for a slow dance.. and while we were walking towards the dance area.. suddenly another hip hop songs starts.. I was disappointed.. but ambreen kept insisting for the dance.. Within like a minute of the dance.. that freakin' bastard Momin (shortest Iron Maiden fan!) just stops us.. saying "Can I interrupt?" So I had no choice but to be a gentle man. .and offer (nice word) Ambreen to him..

Anway.. We four amigos went crazy in the dance floor.. but some of the grade 12's including Harith were like freakin steroid machines.. they danced for like 4 hours non stop without even having dinner.. well they are young and restless.. can't blame them..

Tahir and Saloni (how surprising) were the prom king and queen from grade 12.. ask ambreen who were the kings and queen's for grade 11.. cause I don't remember.. there were no kings and queens from grade 13.
Lots of other things did happen.. during the prom.. but I'm just too tired to tell you guys
Anyway I'm a bit sick so please pray for me
