HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO ME!!!!

Well today is the 29th of July, 2004, a day that i will never forget for perhaps the rest of my life...
For those of you who havent guessed it yet, today is my birthday and im having a kickass time...
Lemme start from the beginning. Last nite i went with my parents for dinner to Hard Rock cafe to celebrate my 18th b'day at 12 o clock. Well, after having got on stage and getting my face speared with cake, we left there at around 12:45 am. I was then deceived by my own family members to beliving that i am supposed to collect a parcel from an apartment. I reached there at around 1ish and went up to collect the "parcel".
Well as soon as i entered the apartment, i got the shock of my life as Faisal,Dhiraj,Saif and Imran gave me a big b'day surprise (Imad and Lokesh joined later)...
We all had a kickass time at nite and i have to say it will remain to be one of the most unforgettable nights of my life...
I would also like to thank all the guys that were involved and i have to say that i couldnt have asked for a better farewell (Im leaving on saturday)

take care and remember that i love you guys and will never forget you...

Thanx Again.

MOVIE REVIEW - Fahrenheit 9/11

Controversy... What Controversy? Posted by Hello

Before I review this movie, I would like to announce that on the basis of majority, Avinash and I have decided to change the reviewing marks from 5 to 10, to give a better understanding of how good the movie/book/whatever is.

Name of Movie : Fahrenheit 9/11

Director : Michael Moore

Running Time : 122 Minutes

Genre : Documentary

UAE Rating : PG (surprisingly)

My Rating : 9/10

Review : The first time I saw Michael Moore was on the First Anniversary of September 11th, and I remember that because I went to see 'Austin Powers in Goldmember' later on in the evening with Avi.

I saw him on the BBC, and they were having some sort of debate on the whole handling of the crisis. It surprised me to see a large, fat, rather scruffily dressed man sitting on the panel of guests.

It was there that I heard of his book 'Stupid White Men', and from then on, I've been 'Moore and Moore' surprised every time this guy does something.

Watching this movie was very weird, because a lot of the things shown in this movie are what he's written in his aforementioned book. It was like watching a different type of movie-based-on-the-book movie.

This movie is very real. The stuff he's shown here is mind-boggling, the facts he puts forward are fantastic, and the way he seems to mix humour with the serious art of documentary film making shows you this guy isn't just an idiot with a video camera.

Now, living in this part of the world, I still have to meet somebody who loves Bush. If anything this movie has made my negative sentiments regarding Bush even stronger.

Now what is even 'Moore' (okay I think I'd better stop that) surprising, is the fact that this movie wasn't really all that censored when I saw. Either the UAE Censor Board have managed to censor the movie without it looking odd and disjointed, or else, they've become really, really liberal. This movie wasn't only a test for the MPAA, but also for the Censor Board here.

I absolutely love the way Moore makes Bush look like an absolute FOOL! It's amazing the way he's able to move the entire documentary over the span of around 3 years without making it boring.

Touching at times, infuriating at others, this is a movie which you should watch. Regardless of whether you agree with Moore's point of view or not, if you want to watch a high quality movie, a movie that will unleash a barrage of emotions within you, a movie that will (I hope) make changes in society, you must watch this movie. It's about time people started making bold movies which are ACTUALLY bold because they show people what they don't see but SHOULD see, and not because they show a whole lot of violence and sex.

It's like a typical Bollywood 'Masala' movie. It has violence, comedy, emotions, drama... Only thing is there is no Hero who saves the day at the end. The scary thing is that this isn't a movie... It's all real.

JOKE REVIEW - Think twice

Well i know people dont exactly post reviews of jokes...but i thought it would be cool to start something like that.... well here is one to start this one...

Think twice

The male teacher in a girls' school asked the science class: "Who can tell me what organ of the human body expands to 10 times its usual size when stimulated? Mary, can you tell me?"

Mary blushed furiously as she stood up. Then replied, "Sir, how dare you ask such a question? I will complain to my parents, who will complain to the principal."
The male teacher was taken aback at first by Mary's reaction. Then, as understanding dawned on him, he called for another pupil, this time a volunteer.

Lily put up her hand. "Yes, Lily?"

"Sir, the correct answer is the iris of the eye."

"Very good. Thanks, Lily," said the male teacher. He then turned to the 1st girl, who threatened to complain to her parents and principal: "Well, Mary, I have 3 things to tell you: First, you have NOT done your homework. Second, you have a DIRTY mind. And thirdly, I fear, one day, you are going to be sadly disappointed."

My Rating - 4/5

p.s. Plz post your comments on this new idea....

BOOK REVIEW - 'Angels & Demons' by Dan Brown

Angels & Demons Posted by Hello

Obvious isn't it, that the first book review of the blog had to be by me? I guess I am left with the responsibility of bringing a little bit of culture to this blog.
So on this historic post, let me bring a little order to the whole reviewing frenzy that has gripped our beloved blog.

Name of Book: Angels & Demons

Author: Dan Brown

Pages: 567 (I think)

Genre: Thriller

Rating: 4.5/5

Review: Well, Angels & Demons, as the name suggests, is a book whose story is deeply rooted in Religion. Those who've read Dan Brown books will know about his fascination with the Catholic Church, as was evident in 'The Da Vinci Code'.

However, where his other books have floundered, apart from Deception Point which I'm still reading, this book has a very solid and satisfying ending.

It is a typical Dan Brown book, starting off with a murder, and the entire story taking place in the span of a single day. His use of facts and fiction in order to create a book which itself is difficult to categorise as either fact or fiction, makes for an interesting read. With the story moving at break-neck speed, and each chapter ending with a cliff hanger, this book is sure to keep you awake at night wanting to read more.

The story starts with a murder (obviously), of who or where, we don't' know. Suddenly the location shifts to the United States, where Havard Professor of Symbology (the study of symbols and the like) Professor Robert Langdon is woken up in the night by a mysterious phone call...

He receives a fax, with a picture of...

I really can't tell you more, as that would be giving away too much of the story.

Read the book, find out for yourself.

MOVIE REVIEW - Shrek 2

Well there really is only one word to describe this movie - KICKASS!!!!!!!!
I just watched it in the cinema and have to say that is was totally worth the money...
Although the beginning was a little boring, The rest of the movie was one hell of a ride...
I especially liked the way they spoofed all the other movies (I wont say anymore to spoil it for those who havent seen it)
Antanio banderas was also very cool in his role....
well those who havent seen it....should go and watch it IMMEDIATELY!!!!

My rating - 5/5

MOVIE REVIEW - Jerry Maguire

Jerry Maguire – 5/5
Ok.. here’s the story so far..
I rented 12 Monkeys and Jerry Maguire..
Actually I just wanted to rent 12 monkeys cause it looked pretty interesting judging by the trailer in Channel 2.. and also it was a movie about time travel and since I just watched Donnie Darko I thought of renting it… now I’ve always wanted to watch Jerry Maguire..
cause that’s like the movie that got Tom Cruise his first best actor Oscar nomination..
so I rented that too..

I completely forgot that I rented them later on because of the Asia Cup.. today I thought of watching Jerry Maguire since 12 Monkeys is like 3 hours long..  I first examined the cover of the movie.. and oh my god.. the first thing written is “Romantic Comedy”! Oh god I hate those movies.. I completely despise them! Yeak! But then I kept remembering the 5 dhs. that I paid the video story guy.. and I’m like “shit.. I cant let those 5 bucks go to waste” So I gathered some energy and started watching it.. the next few minutes completely changed my mind about the genre..

The movie was about a guy named Jerry Maguire who is a sports agent.. he is really famous in the company.. one day he decides to write a very exquisite memo (future statement) about his work and company.. he gets fired from his job after he publishes it..
he then decides to work hard to make his own sports agency as a way of revenge.. but he only has one NFL player (Cuba Gooding Jr.) backing him up… to help him is also Renee Zelwegger (can’t spell the latter) she is a single mother and finds love in Jerry.. the movie does sound really boring…but believe me.. it is damn entertaining

the jokes were really funny! And the acting was SUPERB! Although I’m not a big fan of Tom cruise I should say that he did really gave his best just like in Last Samurai…. Cuba Gooding Jr.. stood out the most.. he was awesome! It’s a must see! The story is really good.. and the movie is not slow.. 2 thumps up from me!

Taking my words back....

Until today morning, i had believed that Bangladesh was a side that didnt deserve its test status. I always told faisal what a pathetic team they were and made fun of him... Well, now i take my words back....
With the way they played today at the beginning of their innings one could hardly believe they were classified as minnows.
I have to say that Bangladesh has started to improve as a team and may well pose a threat to other test teams in the near future.
Just wanted to say that,
Take kare guys

ARY Digital it sucks!

Ok guys this ARY Digital is really crap... oh my god.. did u guys see the live broadcast!
Everything was going wrong in the studio and presentation..
there were numerous ad mistakes..
the sound of the commentators were sometimes inaudible...
the live scoreboard was blank most of the time..
u can even hear the commentators testing the mike during the match
and there were lots of glitches on the screen.. sheeeesh give me a break.. this ARY Digital sucks!

I would have loved it if Ten Sports would have been broadcasting this match instead of ARY!
ARY seriously doesnt have the budget to broadcast a proper live cricket match.. this was also true when the India Pakistan series was going on..

My god... and whats with the cheeeesy ad for Asia Cup..?

Asia Cup!

Ahhh! at last its here.. the Asia Cup!
Alrite guys.. I'll be giving my own highlights..

Bangladesh vs Hong Kong
Alrite bangladesh batted first.. but made a disappointing 221/9
Javed Omar contributed 68.
Hong Kong... (Geez why can't they call it China?)  well their batting was really rusty..
ended up making 105.
Bangladesh has no time to enjoy.. they'll hav the face Pakistan tmrw!

India vs UAE
UAE started brilliantly by taking two quick wickets.. but lost momentum after Dravid and Ganguly took control. Dravid ended up making 104 (93) but ended up getting stumped by Rizwan. UAE were hammered at the last 15 overs.. India ended up making a respectable 260.
Alrite beleive it or not.. although they lost a wicket UAE kicked arse in the first few overs..
Their run rate shot up like a rocket... but they jubilations only lasted for a few overs only.
The players were then getting dismissed in regular intervals.. Tauqir was the highest scoring batsman for UAE - 55(73). According to me Irfan Pathan should've been the man of the match..
He was brilliant in bowling.. and I think its unfair that the bowlers are always underrated when deciding the man of the match.. its always a batsman who gets the award..
Anyways UAE were all out at 144 (35 overs I think).
Disapointing batting performance by UAE..

Rahul Dravid celebrates his century!  Posted by Hello

MOVIE REVIEW - Seabiscuit

Please.. review everything on a scale of 5!!!!
Its always the first time.. so heres history in the making once again..
Heres the first movie review of the blog!
SEABISCUIT - 4/5
Ok i just rented Seabiscuit.. only because Avinash told me he saw ppl coming out of the cinemas crying after they saw the movie..
Ok the movie had a very slow beginning.. it started off with an intro of America in the early 1900's.. from then on quite surprisingly I was glued to my seat.. can u beleive it.. a movie about horse racing and I didn't get bored!?
The movie is the story of 3 different ppl and how they make history with a horse named Seabiscuit.. It's based on a true story of an actual horse - Seabiscuit! - and how it had its ups and downs during the Depression Period in America..
I don't feel like revealing anymore.. cause It would spoil the movie for u guys!

Toby Maguire did look really serious in the movie.. but according to me.. it was Willem H. Macy who did a brilliant job as a radio announcer.. it was quite hilarious!
Anyways its a good rental and hope u guys enjoy the movie!

PS.. The movie didn't even tickle my tear glands.. it wasn't emotional..

Holiday Heat!

Yeah I know its hot outside.. that doesn't mean u guys don't even post a comment..
Yes the blog had been quiet for the past few weeks.. well thats cause of the Euro 2004..
Anyways.. listen ppl I've given up hope in making u guys members of the blog.. why are u guys unable to become a member? Anyways I think I know how to make u guys members of this blog.. I'm mostly online after 12.30 everyday.. Come online and when you're ready inform me and i'll send u a quick email where there'll be a link.. click on the link only once!!! Don't be stupit.. Congratualtions to Greece. They deserve it! Posted by Hello

The Euro was worth the "money"

My dad loves football and so when he found out that he wont get to see the euro cup in our pehla silver subscription he subscribed for evision as well.. And he had to pay a heavy price but it didnt matter for him.. he loves football..
And I'm happy to say that It was worthwhile..
Since the beginnin.. i was in awe watching the czech kicking everyone's arse.. they played brilliantly.. flattening every team that came in their way..
Although I was disappointed with portugals performance in the beginning they really bounced back in action after their victory over spain.. knocking down england which according to me was the best match this series..
The real shock came when my favourite team czech lost to greece... GREECE! GREECE! where the hell did they come from! I didnt even know any of those players.. my god! Greece!
But after that match I was sure that greece will give hell to portugal in the finals..

And hey.. I was right.. I sided with greece for a change.. since everyone were so sure that portugal would win.. nobody cared about greece.. but according to me.. they have one of the best defences ever..

I was really stunned when Charistieas.. or whatever his name is.. scored with a header!
It was so unexpected.. I mean they destroyed Czech's in similiar fashion! And I always thought that corners were a joke..

The best part of the match was when this portugese supporter halted the match by runnin across the field.. and the way he threw a portugese bandana at Figo.. that had to be a candid moment.. The Greek prime minister.. couldn't hold his emotions and really cried out loud.. that was the firt time I saw a leader of a country crying after a match..

Yes.. it was sad for portugal.. but hey nobody should blame them.. they did play well.. especially ronaldo.. but everybody should agree that the better team won the match..

I thoroughly enjoyed the match..
Lets hope that the Asia Cup will be even better!

Devastatingly Unbelievable...

The final of Euro 2004...
Not exactly what I'd hoped it would be...
I just couldn't believe it when Greece won...

And when they showed Ronaldo crying...aww man...That was just too sad...

But what I think was important was that it was a incredibly unpredictable and exciting tournament, and Portugal did a hell of a job hosting it as well as reaching the finals.

Hey, there's always the World Cup in 2006 in Germany!!!
I'm sure Portugal will bounce back...

Scolari is an incredible coach though, first he leads Brazil to a World Cup victory in 2002, and then takes Portugal to the Euro 2004 finals...

Anyway, congratulations to Greece, from underdogs to European champions...wow...

Incredible sporting year for Greece though, they've won the tournament and now they're gonna host the Athens Olympics!

Good for them I guess...

By the way, did anyone notice how incredibly beautiful the whole celebration was? I mean all the fireworks and the streamers and the confetti... and the stadium itself! Incredible engineering there!

Anyway, let's hear what you guys have to say about this final...

I know Ahmed said that Greece will win because they don't have any individual talent like Portugal (Figo, Rui Costa, Ronaldo), so they play like a team!

Maybe that was what separated these two teams in the end... The fact that one team played like a TEAM, and the other...well...didn't!

I'll leave it at that...

Thursday, July 01, 2004

Oh the heartbreak...

Yes...the Czech's lost...I know...It's horrible...
I admit i did happen to mention something like this happening, but i SWEAR TO GOD i didn't jinx the match!!!

PORTUGAL!!! PORTUGAL!!! PORTUGAL!!!

Okay and one more thing, could all of you please start posting and commenting here? After the initial excitement that this blog caused, all the passion seems to have shriveled up...

So let's keep this blog UP-TO-DATE!!!
